![]() CONNECTION SET CONTESTS: I play three tunes (occasionally I will play a bonus or fourth song) and I identify each song as I do. The objective is to figure out what the connection, common thread or theme is. This theme could involve the song titles, the artists or groups and sometimes both. Or it may be about what is heard in the songs or music itself (ie all the songs have bongos in the mix) or it could be about who wrote the tunes, or even where and/or how (ie fake crowd noise) the songs were recorded. However, for many of these connection sets a knowledge of music and/or oldies is not needed. For example, the song titles may all contain the same word, or the artists or groups have a color in their name. This is one of the few contests that does not have many rules, except one. The 'intended connection' is the only one that counts when it comes to declaring a winner. I do thoroughly check for alternate or other possible connectons and then make changes to avoid such a scenario. However, sometimes there are still other themes or connections that get discovered and guessed. If this occurs we will give the guesser an honorable mention, but again the intended connection is the only official connection. You can start guessing as soon as you wish, and as is the case with all the contests, as often as you'd like. The first person to guess the theme or connection correctly, according to myself and any judges assisting me (there are usually two) will be declared the winner. There is only one winner with this contest. Connections Set ideas or themes that are not used: * 'All the artists are deceased' or 'at least one group member is deceased' - connections. So many of the artists we play are unfortunately deceased. So very often in a connection set group of tunes, this is indeed the case. This would be another example of an alternate or non-intended connection. However, it is possible I could use a theme like - 'all these stars died in a plane crash' (ie tunes from Jim Croce, Jim Reeves and Buddy Holly). However, if used at all these types will be few and far between. * Each song title or artist/group name has the same number of word or letters. Or the first song title has one word, the second song title has 2 words and the third song title has 3 words or any such similiar pattern invovling the song titles or artists. As rules and key points go, that's basically it for Connection Sets. A number of the connection set ideas do come from our listeners. So if you have a connection set idea you like to send me or if you just want provide some feedback, feel free to email me at rocknpop@charter.net |
